What is the Real Time AWD with Intelligent Control System™?

Although all-wheel drive is relatively common these days, a lot of auto brands have their own specialized version of it that features unique little differences. Honda has Real Time AWD with Intelligent Control System™, which is primarily used to upgrade Honda vehicles with front-wheel drive to all-wheel drive. The Honda CR-V is no different—as we’ve already discussed, it comes standard with front-wheel drive, but this can easily be modified if you feel like upgrading. Here’s how the system works:

• The system installs a rear differential which engages via a multi-clutch system when the vehicle senses that it’s losing traction on difficult terrain or off-road conditions.
• When this happens, the system delivers torque to all four vehicles, rather than just the front two.
• “Intelligent Control” is a part of the system that reduces lag often suffered by all-wheel drive vehicles when they have to use the rear wheels.
• The Intelligent Control system uses a transmission-mounted electric motor to transfer power rather than a mechanical system, maximizing its efficiency.

What Are the Honda CR-V AWD Models?

Every Honda CR-V has AWD available. However, some upper trims have it as a standard drivetrain, while lower trims require you to upgrade. Here are the details for each of the seven available configurations::

• Honda CR-V LX: AWD available as upgrade
• Honda CR-V Special Edition: AWD available as upgrade
• Honda CR-V EX: AWD available as upgrade
• Honda CR-V EX-L: AWD standard
• Honda CR-V Touring: AWD standard
• Honda CR-V EX Hybrid: AWD standard
• Honda CR-V EX-L Hybrid: AWD standard

No matter which trim you choose (except the hybrid models), you’ll be getting a 1.5L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that delivers 190 horsepower and 179 lb-ft of torque, alongside a smooth Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) and 18-inch wheels.
