The Honda Sensing™ suite includes a variety of safety features, including the Honda Collision Mitigation Braking System™. This system can detect a possible frontal collision, and sends warnings to the driver to brake. Although it’s not a substitute for paying attention to your surroundings, this system is one of many ways a new Honda vehicle will work to keep you safer as you travel Portland roads.
CMBS is radar- and camera-powered; it uses a transmitter that’s built into the grille trim to determine the distance and closing speed of objects in front of you. The system collects information using radar and camera tech, then determines whether a frontal collision is imminent. If so, it’ll visually and audibly warn the driver to apply the brakes and/or steer the car out of harm’s way. If the driver doesn’t react in time, the system can actually apply the brakes on their behalf.
CMBS™ has three stages that it employs to warn or intervene if a possible frontal collision is detected by its radar and camera systems, which include:
Stage 2 and Stage 3 are included for added reassurance, but hopefully, you’ll never need them. The idea of the Collision Mitigation Braking System™ is to provide enough of a warning to the driver, so there’s plenty of time to brake.
CMBS™, as well as other Honda Sensing™ features, can be found on all new Honda vehicles. At Parker Johnstone's Wilsonville Honda, you can learn more about CMBS™, along with other technologies used in Honda cars like Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay®, HondaLink, and much, much more. In the meantime, contact us online or by phone at (503) 925-3116 to schedule a test drive with a new Honda that comes complete with CMBS™.
